Backyard Putting Green Installation Across the GTA

Bring the golf course home with a custom putting green designed and installed by Toronto Turf Pros. We serve golfers across Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham and the entire GTA.

Why Install a Backyard Green

Benefits of a Custom Backyard Putting Green

A backyard putting green from Toronto Turf Pros lets you sharpen your short game any time, without driving to the course. We build custom greens on the larger lots common in Oakville, Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Caledon, and often add one to a wider backyard turf project. Here’s what GTA golfers love about their custom greens.

1. Practice Any Time You Want

Step outside and practice your putting stroke whenever you have a spare 10 minutes. No tee times, no driving, no green fees. A backyard putting green pays for itself quickly when you consider the rounds and lessons it replaces.

2. True-Roll Performance

We use professional-grade putting green turf with a consistent, low-cut pile that delivers a true, predictable ball roll. The speed and feel closely mirrors real bent-grass greens, so your backyard practice translates directly to the course.

3. Fully Custom Design

Every putting green we install is custom-shaped to fit your yard. We can incorporate multiple holes, break and slope, chipping areas, sand bunkers and fringe turf to create a green that challenges your game and suits your space perfectly.

4. Zero Maintenance

Unlike real bent-grass greens that require daily mowing, aeration and chemical treatments, synthetic putting greens need virtually no upkeep. An occasional rinse and light brush is all it takes to keep your green looking and playing its best.

5. Durable in GTA Conditions

Our putting green turf is UV-stabilized and engineered to withstand Canadian winters. It will not freeze, crack or lose its roll characteristics through Toronto’s seasonal temperature extremes. Your green performs year after year.

6. Adds a Unique Property Feature

A beautifully landscaped backyard putting green is a genuine lifestyle feature that stands out when selling your home. It appeals to the growing number of golf enthusiasts in the GTA real estate market.

Putting Green Turf Options

We carry a range of putting green turf products designed for different performance goals and budgets. All options feature consistent pile height, quality fibre construction and long-term UV resistance. If you are curious about the base and drainage that sit under a green, our guide to what goes under artificial grass walks through the layers we build.

Standard Putting Green Turf

An excellent entry-level option for recreational golfers. Consistent speed and a realistic feel make it perfect for learning the fundamentals of putting and chipping at home without breaking the bank.

Premium Performance Turf

A denser, more tightly woven surface that replicates the pace and roll of a well-maintained club green. Ideal for serious golfers who want meaningful practice from the comfort of their own backyard.

Tour-Grade Nylon Turf

The closest synthetic equivalent to a championship bent-grass green. Nylon fibre construction holds up to heavy use and delivers the firmest, truest roll available in any synthetic putting surface.

How We Build It

Our Putting Green Installation Process

Step 1: Design Consultation

We meet with you at your property anywhere in the GTA to understand how you play and what you want to practice. We design the shape, size and features of your green, including hole placement, slope, fringe zones and any optional chipping area or bunker.

Step 2: Excavation and Shaping

We excavate to the appropriate depth and sculpt the contours that will give your green its unique break and challenge. Proper shaping at this stage is what separates a great putting green from a flat, uninteresting surface.

Step 3: Drainage and Base Layer

A perforated drainage system and compacted aggregate base are installed to ensure water clears the surface quickly after rain or irrigation. A firm, stable base is essential for consistent ball roll and long-term turf performance.

Step 4: Turf Installation and Hole Placement

We lay and secure the putting green turf, cut and position each cup precisely, and seam any fringe or chipping area turf cleanly against the main surface. Flags and pins are installed as a finishing touch.

Step 5: Infill and Surface Prep

A fine silica sand infill is applied and worked into the turf fibres to set the playing speed and ensure the surface is firm and consistent across the entire green.

Step 6: Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished green with you, explain how to maintain it and make sure you’re thrilled with the result before we leave. Your new backyard golf experience is ready to enjoy the same day.

Backyard Putting Green FAQs

How much does a backyard putting green cost in the GTA?

Putting greens are priced by size, contours and the turf grade you choose. A compact two or three hole green starts lower, while a large, multi-cup green with breaks, fringe and a chipping area costs more. Most backyard greens fall within the same $4,000 to $15,000 range as a turf lawn, and we give a free, fixed on-site quote.

Does a synthetic putting green roll like a real green?

Yes, when it is built right. We use professional-grade, low-pile putting turf over a firm, laser-graded base, and we set the ball speed with a fine sand infill. The result gives a true, consistent roll close to a well-kept bent-grass green, so practice at home carries over to the course.

How much maintenance does a putting green need?

Almost none. Unlike a real green that needs daily mowing, rolling and chemical treatment, a synthetic green just needs an occasional rinse and a light brush to keep the surface clean and true. It stays playable year-round with no watering, mowing or reseeding.

Will a putting green survive GTA winters?

Yes. Our putting turf is UV-stabilized and built for the full range of Ontario weather, so it will not crack or lose its roll through freeze-thaw. The free-draining base underneath carries snowmelt straight through, and the green is ready to play again as soon as the surface clears.

Can you fit a putting green into a smaller yard?

Often, yes. A green does not need a large lot; we can shape a compact practice green or a combined chipping and putting area into a modest backyard and blend it into the surrounding lawn. We design the layout around the space you have and how you like to practise.
